FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New representative of the Commissioner of Official Languages in Manitoba and Saskatchewan
The Commissioner of Official Languages, Dr. Dyane Adam, is proud to announce the appointment of Denise Lécuyer as her new representative in the Manitoba and Saskatchewan office.
Ms. Lécuyer has been working closely with Francophone communities in the region for 18 years, specifically at the Manitoba Department of Education and Training, and for 9 years, at the Department of Western Economic Diversification. “I am sure that her extensive experience and excellent understanding of the region will enable her to act as a dynamic and effective agent of change with regard to official languages,” said the Commissioner.
Dr. Adam also wishes to acknowledge the work of Ms. Lécuyer’s predecessor, Gérard Gagnon, who is leaving after 22 years of dedicated service. The Commissioner commented, “He was an adviser and player who was valued by both government officials and community leaders alike.”
The role of the representative includes developing a dialogue with institutions subject to the Official Languages Act and organizations that play a key role in the growth of the region’s official language communities. The representative’s mandate also includes working with federal institutions, provincial, territorial and municipal government representatives, majority and minority language community organizations, and the public.
