Forty years in pictures

BilingualismIn partnership with Library and Archives Canada, the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Official Languages Act by putting on an exhibition showcasing the works of renowned Canadian cartoonists that have appeared in the press.

The exhibition recounts the history of official languages to paint a picture of the evolution of public opinion on language policy. Through humour and a sometimes scathing irony, these images remind us of the often divisive controversies and debates of the past, compel us to see them in a new light and, ultimately, make us laugh.

The exhibition is displayed until December 31, 2009, at Library and Archives CanadaGovernment of Canada site, in Ottawa. It will also be shown across Canada in 2009–2010. For more information read the exhibition overview or consult the travelling exhibition calendar.
